New Members Reception 2011

Over 60 new members came to the reception and tour organised last Saturday, and were joined by over 60 established members for the evening barbeque.

In the afternoon Flag and Officers from the club conducted tours of our facilities, answering questions as they went around - So now we all know that racing is not mandatory and sailing is allowed by any member at any time (as long as the tide is in!)

The barbeque was organised by Margaret Norman who gathered a mighty team of slicers, dicers and scorchers to provide the food, with ace washer-ups from the cadets to clean it all up.

All were reminded of the club’s self-help ethos and I would like to tell everyone of our search for members who are interested in helping make things happen at the club – from helping with cadet training and week, club social activities, committee work, organising and running sailing events and even turning our for winter work parties (with their free lunch!)

Two particular needs at the moment are:

1/ Practical people willing to help maintain club boats – particularly boats used for cadet and adult training.

2/ Good dinghy race helms who are willing to help with our RYA Volvo Training Squad, which provides race training to our cadets. We need three members to become either Volvo Coaches (course paid for by Club) or help as assistant coaches.

3/ Cadet parents willing to help both on and off-shore during Cadet Week.

If you are interested in any of these activities please contact me.
